In part one of this two-part blog series, we looked at some basics on how to care for your Invisalign aligners if you're utilizing them. These fantastic modern products help with tooth alignment and several other areas while providing a nearly invisible alternative to traditional braces, and knowing how to care for them will help maximize their results.
At Hillfield Pediatric & Family Dentistry, we're proud to offer a wide range of family dental services to patients across Layton, including several cosmetic dentistry options such as Invisalign treatments and more. Today's part two of our series will talk about several other important areas when it comes to caring for your Invisalign products.
One of the cool advantages of Invisalign aligners is that they can be removed without any trouble for eating or drinking. It's important to remember this and avoid leaving your aligners in while you eat – it could cause damage to the product, and is generally just not great for maintaining oral hygiene either.
We generally recommend taking your aligners out before any meal, then thoroughly rinsing and brushing before putting them back in.
Now, there's one vital consideration to maintain anytime you do remove your aligners, particularly for eating or drinking purposes: You need to brush and floss your teeth before putting them back in. This will help remove any particles or bacteria that may be left behind on the teeth, avoiding potential decay risks and other such issues.
Be sure to brush and floss gently, however, to avoid damaging any of the components of your Invisalign aligners.
While we went over cleaning needs for Invisalign products in part one of our series, we didn't spend much time discussing storage. When your aligners aren't in use, they should be stored properly – this means within their specific case that's meant to protect them.
These cases are designed with ventilation in mind, allowing air to circulate and preventing moisture or bacteria buildups that might damage the aligners. Be sure to use this case whenever you're not wearing your aligners for an extended period of time.
Finally, it's important to maintain regular appointments with our dentists at Hillfield Pediatric & Family Dentistry during your Invisalign treatment. These appointments allow us to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments, ensuring the best possible outcome for your teeth.
