If you are one of the many people out there who weren’t lucky enough to get perfectly straight teeth, you probably have looked into many options. Invisalign® is a method of teeth straightening that has a lot to offer. If you have burning questions about this treatment, how it works, and what it can do for you, we have answered some of them below.
What Is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a series of removable liners that gradually straighten your teeth. They are clear and barely visible in your mouth. The aligners are made of a special patented type of flexible plastic. There are no brackets or wires involved, meaning you have far fewer restrictions than with metal braces. Everyone who undergoes this treatment has a specialized digital plan made. It maps out the movement of the teeth and designs the aligners to use the perfect amount of pressure.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Invisalign®?
Nearly everyone is a good candidate for this treatment because it is able to be customized. It is a great option for both teenagers and adults looking to correct their smile. Invisalign® can help with almost all of the most common teeth alignment issues, including complex ones. The best way to know if you are a good candidate for this option is to have a consultation where we can evaluate your mouth and goals for treatment.
How Often Do I Need to Wear the Aligners?
For optimal results, the aligners will be placed in your mouth 20 to 22 hours a day. This means sleeping with them in. You will switch to a new set of aligners every 1 to 2 weeks. A timeline will be customized to your teeth. With each new set of aligners, your teeth get closer to being straight! You will come in and see us every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure that treatment is progressing as expected.
How Long Does Invisalign® Take to Straighten Teeth?
No two mouths are exactly the same. That being said, the average treatment time with Invisalign® is 12 to 18 months. You will likely see improvements after just a few weeks of wearing them, however. Factors that impact how quickly this treatment work include how often you are wearing your aligners daily and how far the teeth need to be moved.
